The City of Cleveland To Pay Family Of Tamir Rice $6 Million
In breaking news, the city of Cleveland has agreed to pay the family of Tamir Rice — a 12-year old kid who was shot and killed by the hands of police in November of 2014 — a settlement of $6 million.
Out of that $6 million, Tamir’s estate will receive $5.5 million; his mother Samaria Rice and his sister Tajai Rice will each receive $250,000, and the payments will be broken up into $3 million this year, and $3 million in 2017.
While there are still tons of other legal issues that need to be worked out in regards to the shooting, this is a promising step in the right direction. Granted, nothing will bring back Tamir’s life and for that, justice must be served.
