‘Straight Outta Compton’ Becomes Highest Grossing Film With Black Director
The critically acclaimed Straight Outta Compton movie that came out this past August has reached yet another milestone. After surpassing $200 million in box office sales this week, the N.W.A biopic has become the highest grossing film with a black director — F. Gary Gray.
Straight Outta Compton opened up at $60 million for the first weekend, securing the number 1 spot in the box office; it held that position for three straight weeks. This soon-to-be classic movie becomes Universal’s 7th film to reach $200 million worldwide this year, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Congratulations to F. Gary Gray for his achievement, as well as to Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and everyone else involved.
