Ryan Destiny Shares Advice For Young Black Women In Hollywood

On Thursday, June 4, Grown-ish star Ryan Destiny took to her Twitter and Instagram to post a letter for her Black women followers in Hollywood or who wants to be. The young star was born to be in Hollywood, as she tells Teen Vogue all she has ever wanted to do is sing and act. “I never thought of anything else. I wasn’t a kid that wanted to do 50 different things,” she said.

Ryan has been working for a decade, starring in the TV show Star for three seasons before its cancellation. “This message is for my fellow Black sisters in particular,” she began her message, adding that her advice “goes for any career or work space but I’m speaking from my own experience.”

Ryan also has taken accountability on using her voice to speak up or point out issues for herself and those that need it. “We are literally conditioned to not speak on things just so that we do not lessen our opportunities even more,” she stated in her letter.

Her letter comes after a week of worldwide protests due to unlawful deaths of Black people due to police brutality and injustice.
