First Lady Michelle Obama recently sat down with 18-year-old Nene Sy to talk about education, confidence and making mistakes. Nene, a student from Young Women’s Leadership School in Harlem, was given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interview Mrs. Obama and received some advice that all young girls need to hear.

“Walk proud,” FLOTUS said, “work hard, and be confident.”

This fall, Nene will become a first-generation college student, the same as Michelle Obama. “It is very important that people of color take their education seriously if they want to have the success they dream about,” Lady Mo said about the the importance of education for women of color. “I want all girls to work on their self-confidence, that eternal peace of mind and happiness.”
