Live Civil’s Top 7 Lively Civilians of 2011: Day 5
Robin Hood Foundation
Dedicated to the alleviation of problems that poverty causes in New York City, praise is worthy for the entire Leaders and Staff of the Robin Hood Foundation. Since 1988, this foundation was up-started by its hedge fund manager, Paul Tudor Jones. Working with over 240 non-profit organizations around NY, they assist in funding in everything from hunger to the arts; early childhood to education; jobs to economic security; mental and physical health to beyond.
The most dynamic factor that allows the Robin Hood Foundation to be so influential is that 100% of every donation is used directly for each cause. In addition, they help evaluate and improve programs of all types with qualitative and measured support. Their annual award ceremony, Robin Hood Heroes, carefully selects organizations and individuals whom have surpassed difficulties in order to achieve betterment for their neighborhood, borough, or state.
As stated in their approach, in today’s economy, there are only 40% of families in NYC living in poverty that have a working head of household. The Robin Hood Foundation works to combat these issues and lessen the struggles of these families every day. Due to the undeniable effect the foundation has had, the Board of Directors have included great philanthropists through time, including the current Gwyneth Paltrow, Brian Williams, and David Soloman; having included Aerosmith, Lady Gaga, John Legend, and Shakira to name a few. Recently awarded Google.org’s Million Dollar grant for Education and Poverty Initiatives, we expect nothing more than continued success. Working hard to better the less fortunate is as civil as it gets!
