To be non-binary means they don’t define their gender as being “male” or “female.” They may define their gender as being somewhere between “male” or “female” or may identify differently, according to GLAAD.
This isn’t the first time Janelle has proudly claimed her identity, as in 2018 she publicly came out as pansexual, which GLAAD defines as “being attracted to all gender identities, or attracted to people regardless of gender.”
Since this reveal fans have praised her for her openness and bringing awareness to gender/sexuality issues.
Monáe’s most recent project was her supporting role in Harriet and stars in upcoming film Antebellum.
