Emeli Sande Awarded Honorary Degree

Scottish singer-songwriter Emeli Sande has been awarded an honorary degree by Glasgow University.

She received the Doctor of the University degree for her “outstanding contribution to the music industry”.

The 26-year-old attended the university from 2006 until 2009 and achieved an intercalated degree in neuroscience.

Paisley-born Dr Who writer, Steven Moffat, was awarded the Doctor of Letters as part of the university’s annual Commemoration Day celebrations.

In the past 12 months, Sande has performed at the opening and closing ceremonies at the London Olympics and released three number one UK singles.

Her debut album, “Our Version of Events”, was at the top of the UK album charts for 63 weeks, breaking the record previously held by The Beatles.

She has also written music for Rihanna, Leona Lewis, Cheryl Cole and Susan Boyle.
