Black History Month Appreciation (Day 29): Puff Daddy

For our final day of our #LiveCivilBHM series, where for each day of Black History Month we pay homage to a special black man or woman we admire, we’ve chosen one of the most successful members of the music industry Puff Daddy.

Puff Daddy aka P. Diddy has been a staple in the hip-hop community ever since he started Bad Boy Records and started the career of Biggie Smalls. For the last 20+ years, Puff has helped several artists get on, has produced and created some classic music of his own, and is looked at as hip-hop’s Bill Gates.

In addition to his music ventures, Diddy became quite the entrepreneur, launching the very popular Sean John clothing line in 1998, which went on to win several awards and became a must-have brand in the urban clothing world.

Things truly changed in 2007 when Puff joined the Cîroc vodka team and acquired a 50% stake in the company with expectations to revive it. Years later, it’s considered top shelf vodka and a fan favorite to say the least.

Diddy also developed Revolt TV, an all-hip-hop television station providing new music, interviews, etc., and began broadcasting in 2014. A year later, Diddy teamed up with actor Mark Wahlberg and businessman Ronald Burkle of Yucaipa Companies to purchase a majority holding in Aquahydrate, a calorie-free beverage for athletes.

Puff Daddy has been one of the most important black figures in the entertainment world and to this day is still just as impactful as he was in 1994 when Biggie was around. Thank you Diddy for everything you’ve done for music, as well as the black community.

Happy Black History Month! Catch up on all of our other #LiveCivilBHM posts here.
