Tyler Perry announced that he is bringing two new series to BET Plus, the networkings streaming service. This comes to no surprise as his two recently premiered shows “The Oval” and “Sistas” have delivered 3.3 million viewers per night and “The Oval” is the No.1 new scripted season for the general market.
The two series “Bruh” and “Ruthless” will be half hour programs and “Bruh” will highlight the experiences of being a Black man in your 30-somethings navigating through careers, dating, and friendship. Meanwhile, “Ruthless” is a spinoff of his new hit show “The Oval.”
In a statement Perry says, “I’m so grateful for the millions of fans who have been watching the new shows on BET. And this is only the beginning. I’m excited to bring these two new dynamic series to the BET Plus family and continue to tell stories of high stakes drama with emerging talent.”
The President of BET Network Scott Mills shares how this continued partnership benefits the platform, “Our streaming service is a natural extension of BET’s linear network, and Tyler Perry is the perfect partner. The combination of new, original shows and his robust library of popular movies, series, and stage plays that Tyler brings to our joint venture strengthens our position in the streaming landscape and drives subscriber growth, viewership and retention.”
This joint venture between BET Network and Tyler Perry Studios is created to offer a diverse lineup of content that serves the community who loves Black stories. Perry is expected to produce 90 episodes of original series annually for BET and other Viacom platforms. Both of the shows will premiere in 2020 with Perry as the director, writers, and executive producer. Michelle Sneed will also serve as Executive Producer of the series for Tyler Perry Studios.
