ESSENCE Magazine is all about celebrating black women, especially those whose accomplishments may be overlooked by other entities. Their annual Black Women In Hollywood event honors black women who elevate the culture with their skills and talents on and off screen. 2018’s honorees include Tiffany Haddish, Lena Waithe, Danai Gurira and Tessa Thompson.

Black Women In Hollywood is an annual event hosted by ESSENCE every year, the week of the Academy Awards. The 2018 edition will be the 11th installment of this black girl magic powered luncheon.
“Black Women in Hollywood event has become one of the most anticipated Oscar weekend happenings, serving as an uplifting gathering highlighting the phenomenal work of dynamic Black women in the industry. The elegant affair sees Hollywood’s biggest names come together to honor these game-changers, who continue to elevate the culture through their art form.” reports ESSENCE.
Past recipients of this prestigious honor include: Issa Rae and Yara Shahidi in 2017, Tracee Ellis Ross and Debbie Allen in 2016 and Regina King and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in 2015. This years class was chosen based on their abilities to change the game. Waithe, Haddish, Gurira and Thompson have all made moves on and off screen with a fearless approach to Hollywood.
The 2018 Black Women In Hollywood luncheon, which is presented by The Ford Motor Company and sponsored by AT&T, Geico, L’Oréal Paris and Walmart, will take place on Thursday, March 1, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA.
