A new series is coming to Netflix and it stars two of Black Hollywood’s veteran actresses. Tia Mowry and Loretta Devine will star in Family Reunion, a multi-generational comedy series penned by all Black writers!
According to Deadline, the 20-episode project centers on Cocoa McKellan (Mowry). Cocoa is a free-spirited and conscious mother from Seattle, who travels with her family to the small town of Columbus, Georgia for the McKellan Family Reunion. It is there where they get to know an extended family they didn’t even realize they were missing.
Actor Anthony Alabi will play Mowry’s former football player husband. The couple’s four children will be played by actors Talia Jackson, Isaiah Russell-Bailey, Cameron J. “CJ” Wright and Jordyn Raya James. M’Dear, who is described as the matriarch of the family, will be played by Loretta Devine.
Family Reunion is created and executive produced by Meg DeLoatch (Fuller House, Eve) and directed by Eric Dean Seaton (Prince of Peoria, Modern Family).
“I am so blessed to be part of this new and exciting moment in time that will touch and bring laughter, smiles, and joy to everyone who sees it,” Loretta Devine said in a statement. “That is Family Reunion for me right now. When you see it, I think you are gonna love it, because it is all about family … The core of everything.”
As for Tia, she expressed her excitement to return to the small screen and ensures that we’re going to love the upcoming Netflix series.
“I’m so excited to return to television, especially working with Netflix, and I can’t wait for everyone to see Family Reunion,” she said. “I know my fans are going to love it!”
The Sister, Sister actress has been keeping busy these days with her new bundle of joy, baby Cairo, a YouTube channel that I happen to love, Tia Mowry’s Quick Fix, an upcoming Lifetime original Christmas Movie, My Christmas Inn, and of course her latest Netflix gig, Family Reunion.
