Will Smith To Star As Father of Venus & Serena Williams In ‘King Richard’

By Posted on 0 1 m read

There’s a new film in the works and it will tell the story of the father of tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams. Will Smith will star in the film ‘King Richard’ as Richard Williams, based on a script by Zach Baylin.

According to Variety, it will center on Richard Williams overcoming tremendous hardship, skepticism, controversy, and his own troubled past to raise two of the greatest and most talented athletes. Despite having no tennis background, Williams drew up a 78-page plan for Venus and Serena’s professional tennis careers. He began giving them tennis lessons on public courts in Compton. The sisters would then go on to become tennis champions and arguably two of the best athletes in the game – with Serena winning twenty-three Grand Slam tournaments and Venus winning seven.

Will Smith is not only starring in ‘King Richard’ but will also be serving as a producer through his Overbrook Entertainment banner. You can catch him starring in ‘Aladdin’ for Disney, as well as on the set of a movie I’m super excited for, ‘Bad Boys For Life’.

Brain And Brawn: Tennis Star Venus Williams Receives Degree From Indiana University East

Venus Williams has taken her talents to the classroom. The star player who has won seven grand slam titles, has hit the books in her off-season and landed a huge prize, a business administration degree.

“I’ve learned so much,” Williams stated in an official press release. “It was always my dream to have a business degree, and I ended up going to art school so many times, but in the back of my head I felt like I needed the tools to be a better leader, to be a better planner, to be better at all of the things I wanted to do in my businesses because I’m so hands-on.”

Williams, whose sportswear brand Eleven has reached new heights with the addition of sponsored athletes, is making it her mission to be present in all aspects of her brand. With multiple endeavors already into play including her clothing line, interior design firm and co-ownership of the Miami Dolphins football team with sister Serena, the knowledge Williams has is sure to pay off in the long run.

According to Indiana University East, Williams was able to complete her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration online and sealed the deal during her first visit to the campus last week. Venus Williams is showing the world that it is never too late to stop learning and growing.

Our favorite sports sisters faced off once again in the 2015 Wimbledon tournament earlier today as Serena Williams defeated her older sister Venus in the quarterfinals. In their 26th career meeting, Serena’s steady serve and hard hitting was too much for Venus as she won the match in a 6-4 and 6-3 victory. This win extends Serena’s Grand Slam winning streak to an incredible 25 matches.

With Madison Keys and Coco Vandeweghe also making the quarterfinals, it’s the 1st time since 2004 that three American women players advanced to the Wimbledon quarterfinals. Following her victory, here’s what Serena had to say:

“It’s hard to feel excited about (beating) someone you root for all the time no matter what and who you love so much and she’s your best friend in the world,” Serena said. “It’s never easy but you just play for the competition and enjoy the moment.”

Until the next time Serena and Venus face off, we owe a congratulations to the younger sister and wish her the best of luck in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Wimbledon tournament.
