Meet the 28 Year Old Poet Behind Beyonce’s Words In ‘Lemonade’

Meet Warsan Shire, the woman who wrote many of the beautiful and powerful words in Beyoncé’s latest mater piece Lemonade.

The collaboration between the young poet and the Grammy-award winning artist adds so depth to the already personal songs, which are featured throughout the album.

With heartfelt lyrics like, “You can’t make homes out of human beings/ someone should have already told you that/ and if he wants to leave/ then let him leave,” these astonishing words have been penned out by the 28-year-old,

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Wins Prestigious Award For Women Novelists Worldwide

Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is the recipient of The Baileys Women’s Prize For Fiction . This honor is is one of the most prestigious awards that celebrates “excellence, originality and accessibility in women’s writing from throughout the world.”

According to BBC Adichie won the “Best of the Best” award in celebration of the 20-year anniversary of the annual prize. Her prize includes a $46,000 reward and and a bronze medal known as a ‘Bessie’ —  in 2007 for her highly-acclaimed book, “Half The Yellow Sun,” a story that explores a war in Nigeria during the 1960s.

“Over the years [the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction] brought wonderful literature to a wide readership that might not have [otherwise been] found,” Adichie said. “I have a lot of respect for the books that have won in the past 10 years and also for the books that have been shortlisted — I feel I am in very good company.”

Reflecting on Maya Angelou’s Contribution to Our Society on her 87th Birthday

Today (April 4), we acknowledge and remember the great contributions of Ms. Maya Angelou. During her 86 years of life, Ms. Angelou used her wonderful way with words to help shape the course of our society and the mindsets of its citizens.

Ms. Angelou would have been 87 years old today. The prominent dancer, singer, author and poet is best known for her poem, Phenomenal Woman, and her 1969 memoir, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Each work of art continues to reflect all that Ms. Angelou stood for as she worked effortlessly to use her talent for the betterment of our nation.

As a tribute to Ms. Maya Angelou we have composed a gallery of quotes that will certainly remind us that love is the root of all things and most importantly, “Love is that which hold us together.”

A Few ‘Phenomenal’ Young Ladies Pay Tribute to Dr. Maya Angelou (VIDEO)

If we didn’t have a reason to love Maya Angelou before, the video above certainly provides us all the reason in the world to adore the beloved poet. As a part of their partnership with Because of Them We Can, Nickelodeon wrapped up Black History Month by honoring Dr. Maya Angelou with a few adorable young ladies reciting a portion of her famous poem, “Phenomenal Woman.”

Founded in 2013, Because of Them, We Can is a viral photo campaign that aims to build the self-esteem in children by providing them with positive imagery to serve as a constant reminder of their potential. Because of Them, We Can celebrates America’s rich history and promising future through images that refute stereotypes for our children by educating and connecting them to heroes who have paved the way.
