Guest Blog: Toya Pens Letter On Mother’s Day

By Posted on 56 2 m read

To celebrate Mother’s Day this year, we reach out to some of our favorite mothers to pen an open letter to some of the joys and blessings they have received during motherhood. Toya  wrote the following letter for her family:

I became a mother at the age of 15, I didn’t know a thing about motherhood at that time.  All I knew was I wanted to be able to give my daughter all the things I didn’t have and more.  I wanted to be the best caretaker, protector and role model to my baby girl.  Having my daughter so young was such a life-altering experience. I had to grow up super fast but the Joy of just watching her grow up and re-living all those first moments when she started discovering how to do things on her own was everything!   Now she’s grown and I’ve started all over again.  It’s so different this time around.  I’m older and wiser and I’ve learned so much about motherhood from raising my oldest daughter I feel more experienced now. The joy of motherhood comes in moments. I’ve learned that there will be hard and frustrating times. There is no such thing as a “perfect parent” so just be a real one.  I’m forever grateful and blessed to have two daughters.  They put the color inside of my world.  Happy Mother’s Day! – Toya

Guest Blog: Monica Brown’s Open Letter To Motherhood

By Posted on 75 2 m read

To celebrate Mother’s Day this year, we reach out to some of our favorite mothers to pen an open letter to some of the joys and blessings they have received during motherhood. Monica Brown wrote the following letter for her family:

Each day as a Mother requires something different , I’ve realized that no matter the journey , my children are the JOY….. Often times the desires of my heart come through them & wherever doubt lived inside of me , they replaced with a confidence that has lead me to great things. I was fortunate to have been raised by an incredible God fearing woman.. She never made excuses, she’s was always present with purpose . That purpose was always to give us an upbringing that we could be proud of & instill morals that could not be broken by the world . I undoubtedly strayed but because of her teachings, I had something magnificent to return to . The Love of God and her open arms saved me when I was in my own way …… I understand that she is , because of her mother. Just as I am, because of her.  Relentless, not easily broken , joyful , prayer filled believers that take each day as it comes!!! You can not focus on the hardships of being a mother because you will miss the joys. The laughter and beautiful moments between my children and I are why I keep a genuine smile and sincere heart… When I’m no longer here I pray that my love for Rodney, Romelō & Laiyah lives so strongly in them that no one notices I’ve left … Everything I am, I will give to them.. When I think of Gods plan I see their faces…This Mother’s Day gratefulness fills my heart and soul. Because of them, one day my life’s story will be the greatest ever told ….  – Monica Brown

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas For Moms Who Love Wine & Champagne

By Posted on 0 2 m read

With Mother’s Day now less than two weeks away, there’s not much time left to decide on a gift to give the phenomenal and prominent women in your life. And even with a ton of resources and gift guides available online, searching for the perfect gift can still be an overwhelming process. In this specific blog post, I wanted to zero in on a specific kind of mom and that is one who loves wine and champagne!

My social media timelines are filled with moms who often post pictures of their highly anticipated evening glasses with captions like, “Mommy’s evening drink,” “Mommy juice,” or hilariously enough, “Just give me a straw.”

If you’re looking to step away from the traditional Mother’s Day gifts like flowers and cards this year, you’ve come to the right place. And if you love wine as much as I do, you may even throw a few things in the basket for yourself!

Wine Glasses

Searching for wine glasses or champagne flutes should not be difficult at all as they are typically available at any store that sells wine or drinkware. We can’t drink wine without our wine glasses, right? Well, I mean we could, but would you really want to?

 Bottle of Wine + Stoppers

I can tell you, no one has given the gift of wine more than me. Whether birthdays, holidays, or celebratory events, I’ve come to enjoy giving wine as a gift almost as much as the recipient enjoys receiving it. Also, don’t hesitate to throw a pack of stoppers in the bag. They are greatly appreciated!

If you know a mother who loves to entertain, a decanter just may be a great idea. It is said that decanters allow wine (particularly older wine) to separate from its sediment and when mixed with oxygen, makes the wine taste better!

Cheese Tray

Wine and cheese is a delicious combination, so I thought adding a cheese tray to the list of gift ideas for Mother’s Day was a nice touch, particularly this marble and copper cheese tray from West Elm.

An Ode To All The “Mompreneurs” This Mother’s Day

By Posted on 48 2 m read

A mompreneur is a mother and entrepreneur dealing with the aspect of raising children, maintaining giving their kids emotional support, and balancing the switch of being a savy entrepreneur in a male dominated world. All while being a loving mother, perhaps in the same breath.

Before I had my daughter, I was an entrepreneur. I put my all into my business and did whatever it took to accomplish my goals. After becoming a mom, my drive went through the roof. I launched a new business and a blog. For some mompreneurs, starting a business is a means of creating a better life for their kids; for others, the kids themselves inspired the business idea. I was one of the inspired ones since the next businesses I launched were geared about babies and moms.

I used to wonder what my true purpose was. Friends and family told me I was crazy for even thinking that because I have always helped so many people. After a few months with my daughter, I knew my purpose was to be an awesome mom. My daughter has opened my eyes to so many things. I now can relate to mothers all around the world. I’ve become more inspired to help mothers that have goals to be an entrepreneurs but don’t have the resources. I love everything about being a mom and it has sharpened my skills more and I feel it has made me a better entrepreneur.

A Mompreneur is a visionary, a fiery, dedicated, multi-tasking, innovative creator. She knows how to listen with compassion, lead with strength and play with her imagination. Happy Mother’s Day to my fellow Mompreneurs! – Melanie Marie

Remembering Ana: Mother of Sandy Hook Victim Pens Touching Open Letter To All Mothers

By Posted on 0 2 m read

While many mother’s bask in a house full of love and laughter on Mother’s Day, Nelba Márquez-Greene wanted to recognize the mothers who do not get that honor due to acts of gun violence which took their children away.

Nelba is the mother of Ana Grace Márquez-Greene, one of the child victims of the Sandy Hook shooting in December 2012. Though it has been four years, the sorrow of losing her daughter has not lessened. That led to a Facebook open letter she penned for “Mothers With Empty Laps on Monther’s Day” on her “Remembering Ana Grace Márquez-Greene” page. Though young, Ana created a legacy inspiring her parents to create The Ana Grace Project to build healthier communities, prevent violence, and promote recovery.

It was nothing but pure courage for Nelba to let the world into her personal thoughts of losing one of their two children. Being able to have the strength to still encourage other family victims on such a significant day would be hard for anyone. Regardless, Nelba made it her duty not to encourage mother’s to “move on,” but to move forward using faith in Jesus and belief in their own strength.

“You are loved when you are angry, loved when you are sad, loved when you are struggling to make sense of why your child is gone. Jesus is with you and so am I.”

Young Ana is greatly missed by her family and friends. Thank you, Márquez-Greene Family for your hard work in promoting the physical and emotional well-being of your community.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the strong, warrior mothers of the world.

Funny Video Puts Men Through A Simulated Child Birth!

By Posted on 1 1 m read

In the wake of Mother’s Day this past weekend we came across this funny and semi-informational video about two guys who voluntarily wanted to find out just how much truth there was to comments made about the type of pain women experience during childbirth.

In the video the men are hooked up to electrodes in their abdomen that send electric pulses through their body that simulate initial contractions, pre-labor contractions and “full fledged” labor (they only make it to about 6 out of 10). The video will definitely bring you some laughs and make you want to call your mom to say thank you!
