I AM READY Founder @IAmJasonLeee Launches #ForTrayvon Campaign With Karen Civil, Kevin McCall and Many Others

Since the verdict reading in the case of Martin Vs. Zimmerman there have been a number of citizen and celebrity efforts towards a more suitable verdict. In the case of what some are referring to as the “OJ Simpson trial of this generation”, the level of unrest with the state of Florida and our judicial system has bonded us all together around a very worth cause.

In keeping the momentum going, I AM READY founder Jason Lee has spearheaded this particular movement in memory of Trayvon Martin and in opposition of the Stand Your Ground laws which have been at the core of the controversy. The Unite One Million People For Change campaign is based at www.ForTrayvon.org and has an accompanying social media component with #ForTrayvon. The campaign will directly benefit The Trayvon Martin Foundation to assist in creating awareness of how violent crimes impact families of the victims and provide much-needed support for those families, in light of the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Heralded for its innovation and endless pursuit of social justice, the I AM READY Foundation has garnered tremendous support and recognition from Congress, the Senate, and California’s Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom. Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx has voiced his consistent support of the Trayvon Martin Foundation and family since Trayvon’s death. The foundation’s latest campaign stresses the message of peace and justice in light of the verdict of the State of Florida v. George Zimmerman trial.

The Trayvon Martin “I AM PEACE” T-shirt is available for sale on www.FORTRAYVON.org, with proceeds supporting the Trayvon Martin and I AM READY foundations. Celebrities Meagan GoodKym WhitleyDawn RichardChris Brown, Mehcad Brooks and more have taken a stand by wearing the shirt.

Youth across the country will be encouraged to become Campaign Ambassadors by promoting the campaign via their social networks and empowering others with its message of peace, equality, and active community stewardship. To equip youth with entrepreneurship, Ambassadors will be given the opportunity to participate in the Network of Untapped Entrepreneurs (NUE). NUE will offer Youth Ambassadors opportunities to learn about, make and manage money through social online and mobile entrepreneurship. To participate in the campaign or become a Youth Ambassador, please visit www.FORTRAYVON.org.

“I launched my foundation to create programs that would address the issues that seemed to constantly plague my community. After my brother’s murder, ending senseless violence was at the top of the list. As a witness of his murder and a victim of gun violence myself, I understand implicitly the pain that is felt daily by families and communities like Trayvon Martin’s,” says Lee, I AM READY’s founder and campaign visionary.

We at Live Civil are in full support of Jason, the I AM READY Foundation, and the Unite One Million People For Change campaign. In a society where things are so easily forgotten, and causes are so quickly abandoned, let’s all do our part to ensure that this particular circumstance isn’t one that we let grow cold. Show your support by joining those that have already become a movement and “be the change we want to see”!

Best Dressed of the Week ft. Lala Anthony, Kim K & More!

This past week has been a busy week in fashion. From the NAACP awards in Los Angeles, to launch events, to the annual Market America Conference in Miami, celebrities have been turning heads and making fashion statements. Live Civil has observed the various pros and cons of the week, and has picked the three best looks of the week.
La La Anthony, who has recently launch her make-up line “Motives by LaLa,” was on hand at Market America to promote her line’s newest colors for the season. La La went for her always glamorous look with a yellow fringed Stella Mc Cartney dress.  The sleeveless  Stella Mc Cartney dress was fit to the body at the top and flared at the bottom right above the knee. The yellow dress highlighted  LaLa’s complexion and gave her a glow. We loved it!
The expecting mother, Kim Kardashian, displayed to her instagram followers how to make a pregnancy look elegant yet spicy. Kim wore a leopard print  Fausto Puglishi dress. The dress was a combination of what has become Kim K’s tradition colors of black, gold, and hints of tan.
Meagan Good graced the NACCP awards red carpet in a blue long-sleeved asymmetrical gown. The color of the dress highlighted Good’s complexion and gave a little visibility to her curves. The side split contributed to Good’s personal edgy, rocker style. Good’s gown definitely combined her personal style with elegance and grace.

[Full Episode] Meagan Good Joins Kerry Washington As A Leading Lady in NBC’s Deception

After the overwhelming success of ABC’s drama Scandal (which returns to television this thursday!), NBC has decided to follow suit with a similar formula. Meagan Good stars as televisions new leading lady Joanna Locasto, in a drama about an undercover detective, infiltrating the family of a late friend and billionaire heiress, in hopes of finding her true cause of death. Joanna encounters many twists and turns while on her journey, faces an old flame or two, and has to deal with the temptation of falling into the life she left behind.

As good as it sounds Deception seems to fall more in line with ABC’s other top contender Revenge, and was met with mixed reviews. Viewers and blogs alike have complained of the premier episode being a bit hard to follow and slow moving, however sources such as NY Daily News feel that your disdain for the antagonist family will be more than enough to keep you coming back.

The show also stars Laz Alonzo as Meagan’s “handler”/liaison, Victor Garber from Alias and a million other shows you’ve probably seen, and is directed by Peter Horton, who also worked on Grey’s Anatomy with our beloved Shonda Rhimes. We have the first episode in its entirety for you here, so let us know what you think!
