Meet this Young Media Maven: Perri Janelle, Brand Ambassador of Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty

By Posted on 60 4 m read

Straight out of Detroit city, 26-year-old Perri Janelle Halsell has been growing her own brand and platform as a fashion and lifestyle blogger for today’s Millennials. After a short start to curating content for her social media platforms and website, this beauty was able to land an opportunity to work alongside of Savage x Fenty Lingerie Line and here’s how:

“I actually went to a Robes & Rose’ event in my hometown and I wore this green tiger print pajama set and a purple fur robe, which were both purchased from the Savage site!  Since I have been blogging, I was not tagging the brands, I actually was just using the content on my website to increase my traffic…Basically telling everyone you had to go to my website to find out where I got a look from,” says Perri.

However, when it came to her Instagram post about her pajama set, Perri decided for once to tag the brand’s profile in her photo. And even though the picture received a minuscule amount of likes, the post still caught the attention of the official Savage x Fenty profile.

“They DM’d me on Instagram asking to use the photo but it wasn’t a great photo, I actually cropped my face,” she says. “So I sent them the original but they responded saying they couldn’t use it because the resolution was low so I was soooooo upset. I was really beating myself up. So many people were telling me to take the photo again, but I just said forget it.”

Fast forward to a couple weeks later, the lingerie brand messaged Perri again offering her a position as a brand ambassador.

“It’s been wonderful ever since. I’ve been a brand ambassador since October of this year,” says Perri.

Since beginning her role as a ambassador, Perri has been reaping many benefits from the company, including receiving FREE unreleased pieces of lingerie before the public gets to set their eyes on it. But it’s not all fun, freebies, and free pub; according to Perri, a brand ambassador for Fenty has many requirements to fulfill.

“What it takes to be a brand ambassador for Fenty is that they send you different looks and basically you have a time frame to get your content up and you go from there,” she says.
“It’s actually awesome because Savage x Fenty uses so many different woman of all shapes and sizes. Even though I don’t feel like I have a perfect body, Savage makes me feel confident in my own skin.”

Since working with Fenty, Perri has also been able to expand her network and gain more attention on social media.

“I think I am definitely being noticed and recognized by so many different people and companies,” Perri explains. “It’s a great feeling because they see your hard work and they want to see you win also! Being a Brand Ambassador for Fenty has been more positive than anything. My engagement has been through the roof!”

Although this boss gal is getting more traffic to her platform from showing off different styles of Savage x Fenty undergarments, she still keeps in mind of what she posts and who’s watching her post.

“I will say I have to be mindful because I am posting lingerie and it is a lot of young girls who look up to me. I don’t want them to feel like oh, I’m selling my body on the internet but realize I’m actually a grown woman who also likes to feel confident and sexy in a tasteful way. So everything I do it definitely has to reflect me!”

But Fenty isn’t the only brand Perri represents. She has a resume of businesses and brands she’s worked with as an ambassador in the past and presently.

“I actually am a brand ambassador for a another company in my home town and it’s called, ‘The TEN Nail Bar’ which is a modern black owned nail salon,” she says.

Additionally, Perri also has worked with Charlotte Russe, a female clothing store, in the past and starting in 2019 she will begin a new partnership with another brand that is based in Detroit.

“I am hoping to start working with more brands in 2019, so I just can’t wait and I’m pushing myself every day to reach my goals,” she says.

In the end, Perri offered some advice to those aspiring to be brand ambassadors and media maven’s of this millennium. Here’s what she had to say:

“The advice that I can give to anyone is really stay true to yourself! Never doubt yourself! There are going to be so many people out there who try to tear you down, not support you, hate and think your dreams are a waste of time, “ she says. “Just keep going hard, be original and believe in yourself. Those goals will start getting checked off your list one by one, and reach out to brands if you are trying to work with them!”

Short Hairstyles You’ll Fall In Love With This Summer

By Posted on 0 2 m read

As temperatures continue to climb and summer just seven weeks away, a lot of women (including myself) are searching for what may become our signature summer look. And if you’re a woman who is looking for fun ways to incorporate summer into her daily life, starting with a brand new look may be exactly what you need!

In the summertime, women tend to opt for shorter hairstyles due to the heat, which prompted me to gather a short hair appreciation post. Whether you’re into braids, bundles, bobs or pixie cuts, this post features short hairstyles to accommodate everyone. I believe we can all agree that there has always been a certain level of fierceness and confidence associated with shorter hairstyles and these gorgeous women prove that you can slay all of these looks and do so effortlessly!

Tapered Cut

Tapered cuts are perfect for women who are looking for natural hairstyles with a bit of edge and versatility.

Bantu Knots

Bantu knots are a great example of rocking a short and fun hairstyle without having to cut your natural hair. It also makes the summertime heat and humidity easier to deal with. You can keep it simple with Bantu knots all over (right) or you can create a fun and flirty look like the one seen on YouTube beauty vlogger Missy Lynn (left) by creating Bantu knots in the front and leaving the back curly and free.

Pixie Cut

A pixie cut, which requires minimal maintenance, is only for the bold, fearless, and confident woman. There is a different level of self-confidence seen in a woman who can rock a classic pixie cut and I think we can agree that both of these women slayed this look!

Asymmetrical Bob

The asymmetical bob has to be one of my favorite short hairstyles. This versatile cut not only frames the face, but can be worn with a middle part, side part, straight, curly, and has so much body!

Braided Bob

It’s no secret that black women use braids as a way to escape from all of the maintence that we have to perform daily on our natural hair, not to mention it is also a protective style yet very creative. The braided bob is a look that has grown on me over the last couple of years and like any braided style, would be ideal for the upcoming summer months!

Here’s What Everyone Should Leave In 2017

By Posted on 0 2 m read

The new year is the perfect opportunity to wipe your slate clean and begin anew.  Reflecting on 2017, the good, bad and ugly moments all shaped a year full of triumph and tragedy.  Take the standard tradition of creating New Year’s resoulutions up a notch. Do not just list goals to reach, places to travel and items to check off your bucket list. Think about the behavior necessary to make these things attainable rather than make a list that is forgotten about before April Fool’s Day.

In order to reach new heights in 2018, drop toxic people and practices and begin the new year on a positve note. Need help identifying who and what needs to go?  Here are 5 things everyone should leave behind.

Self Doubt

“Self-esteem means knowing you are the dream.” – Oprah Winfrey

2018 is the year of confidence. Leave all self doubts in 2017.  Celebrate your accomplishments, seek out opportunities and step boldly into a new mindset.  Combat negative thoughts with positive affirmations whether it be empowering quotes or self compliments. Speak only positive thoughts about yourself daily and remember all the great qualities you own.

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.” – Maya Angelou

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.  If there are goals you want to reach, step outside of the comfort zone and go for them.  Break your normal routine and take chances that may put you closer to your dreams. Attend events, network with professionals, send texts first, run the extra mile, no matter the goal, break out and do it!  Being uncomfortable makes room for necessary improvement and growth.

Faux Friends

“No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow. ” – Alice Walker

Make the conscious decision to end toxic relationships going forward. Identifying these people may be difficult at first yet in the end, weeding out these faux friends will only lead to positive results. Distance yourself from people who spill your tea to anyone who will listen, constantly takes aim at your insecurities or any other detrimental behavior.

“Life is short, and it’s up to you to make it sweet.” – Sadie Delany

What good is the hard work if you do not get to enjoy the fruits of your labor?  Make relaxing and enjoying life a priority and stop overworking in 2017.  Create a balance between work and play and drop the “no days off” mindset. Days off are imparitive to health. Do not get burnt out working 24/7. Stop, and smell the roses.

1. Sun exposure increases vitamin D levels in the body and helps optimize hormones.

Outdoors air has more oxygen than the air we breath indoors. Nature increases positive thoughts and feelings of well-being and has been shown to reduce depression. Research has shown that exercise is an effective treatment for mild to moderate depression. current study, published in the Journal of Affective Disorders, followed a similar method to one from 2008 that showed that a one-hour walk in a woodland park improved memory and attention. Web Md states that endorphins that are released during exercise trigger  “a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine. For example, the feeling that follows a run or workout is often described as “euphoric.” That feeling, known as a “runner’s high,” can be accompanied by a positive and energizing outlook on life.” Regular exercise has been proven in studies to reduce stress, ward off anxiety and feelings of depression, boost self-esteem and improve sleep.

Serotonin levels are increased when you exercise outdoors or in green spaces. What is serotonin you ask? According to Australian Lifestyle  seratonin is a neurotransmitter that is important in appetite control, sleep and our general metabolism.

The outdoors is constantly changing. You see birds, as you walk terrain changes, people you walk by have different faces, there are sounds and smells.
