The Golden State Warriors basketball star says it all starts with someone believing in you just like educators believed in him.

“I had coaches and teachers that believed I could be something special. That’s where it starts,” Durant told The Mercury News. “Just older folks that believe and trust in your potential, whether it’s coaches, teachers or guidance counselors. You need someone with more experience who believe in you.”

Kevin Durant made the decision to collaborate with College Track after becoming familiar with the work they’ve done in the Bay Area. College Track is an Oakland-based program, which will ultimately open its first east coast site through working on The Durant Center. According to The Washington Post, a second College Track location will open this autumn in Congress Heights in Southeast D.C. and a third is in the early planning stages.

“It wasn’t so much that he didn’t want to do something in the Bay,” College Track chief executive Elissa Salas said. “But he was looking to really invest really deeply in his home community.”

Current President of the United States, Donald Trump, is known to air out personal, private and political greievances on Twitter. One of his recent most infamous rants took aim at the Golden State Warriors whom he uninvited from their potential White House invitation. The Warriors will visit the Washington D.C. and use this trip to spread some joy to the local community.

This decision was made by the team to spend the day with local youth says head coach Steve Kerr.

“It’s their championship. They got disinvited to the White House, so it’s up to them what they wanted to do. So they made their plans. I want the players to have a good day and to do somehting positive and to enjoy what they’re doing.” said Steve Kerr to ESPN.

A trip to the White House is standard for the country’s reigning NBA championship team, yet Donald Trump disaproved of some of the star players comments on his practices. Both Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant have spoken out and against Trump’s divisive actions.  Trump used social media to let the Golden State Warriors know they were not welcome.

The Mayor of D.C. Muriel Bowser and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi extended invitations to the Warriors yet the team chose to not take a political route.

“At the end of the day, it’s about us celebrating the trampionship, so there’s no point in getting into the political stuff and all that.” says Warriors forward Draymond Green to ESPN.

The visit will only consist of players, coaches and students. The Golden State Warriors will also take on the Washington Wizards February 28 during their time in the nation’s capital.

#GivingIsGood 💚 @balleralert #BallerificCharity – Kevin Durant Donates $35,000 to Elementary School in OKC-blogged by @djb.jewelz #KevinDurant (@easymoneysniper) seems to be an all around good guy. From his #MVP status to his endorsements, he's always making moves. He's even dabbling in some charity work. A few years back, Durant found #PositiveTomorrows, an elementary school in #OklahomaCity specifically for homeless children. Since then, Durant has donated to the school three times. On Wednesday, the #OKCThunder star decided to visit the school and give a donation in person. He came with a check worth $35,000 that will go towards building a kitchen and buying food items. He even went in every classroom to meet with the students. One boy collapsed at the baller's surprise visit. Nice to see the #NBA star give back to the community.
