Sevyn Streeter Joins FLOTUS for College Signing Day and Reach Higher Initiative

Across the nation, high school seniors and more were encouraged to share the next stop in their educational journeys for College Signing Day. As part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher initiative, Sevyn Streeter and Sway Calloway, led an all-school rally at Sacramento Charter High School presented by Get Schooled to recognize and celebrate students’ commitment to their success.

“I feel passionately about education,” said Sevyn Streeter to a crowd of 1,000 screaming Sacramento high school students.  “The things I learned in schooled helped me get to where I am today.”

Rapper Bobby Brackins also participated in the festivities and shared, “I’m always learning from the people before me. Soak up as much knowledge as possible.” He continued with his personal mantra for success, “Success is doing something you love. If you’re doing something you love then you’re successful.”

Get Schooled sponsored the 2015 California College Challenge which was  designed to boost financial aid completion rates. As the winners of this contest, Sacramento Charter School was awarded a $2,000 grant which they will use to provide college scholarships for their seniors and summer college enrichment program scholarships for their 9th – 11th graders.

“There is nothing more powerful than gaining knowledge through education,” said Sway Calloway. “I am excited to celebrate with Sacramento Charter High School students for what they have accomplished and what they will accomplish.”
