Serena Williams Is Showered With Support At The ‘Being Serena’ New York City Premiere

By Posted on 0 2 m read

Serena Williams, 36, radiated in a white bodycon dress, with gold sleeves to match the superstar athletes 4 Olympic Gold medals, 23 Grand Slam titles, and 72 WTA trophies for the premier of her 5 part HBO docu series: Being Serena. The series follows Serena, and newlywed husband, Reddit founder, Alexis Ohanian, as they embark on their journey as newlyweds and new parents to their daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.

The docu-series paints a different picture of the typically private and fierce competitor that the sports world has grown to know, respect, love and revere in Williams. Many would liken Serena to a well tuned machine, however candid discussions about swaddling and blankets, naming her daughter, and the nervousness of being a good mom, reminds viewers that Serena is very much human. Her mortality is ever more present as the tennis stars previous battles with pulmonary embolisms posed a threat to her pregnancy, forcing her to deliver the baby via C-Section.

Serena uses this opportunity to provide an intimate look into the life of the world’s greatest athlete when the stadium lights dim. Williams allowed cameras into the delivery room, the gym, and her nursery: where she proudly displays the Australian Open trophy she won in 2017 while 3 months pregnant!

Williams says “it is important for Alexis to see the trophy, to know that she fueled the fire that led her victory.”

The five part series, set to air May 2, was premiered to a theatre full of close family and friends, including the Hadid sisters. Mom Oracene, and big sister Venus and her beau Nicholas Hammond were also in attendance to provide support to the star on her big night.

Being Serena will chronicle the journey to balancing family, marriage, and motherhood as Williams battles back to her spot as the #1 tennis player.

“I put so much pressure on myself. I want to make sure I am the best, says Williams, I don’t know if there’s anything left for me in tennis…But I am not done yet.”

Catch the premier of Being Serena on all HBO platforms beginning May 2, and Williams live in action in the French Open beginning May 21!
