Riders Throw A Graduation Ceremony For A Graduate Who Stuck On A Delayed Subway

By Posted on 0 1 m read

New York subways always have something interesting going on. This past Tuesday (May 30) the subway action was a bit different when Jerich Marco Alcantara missed his commencement ceremony from Hunter College due to a delay on the E train. Alcantara was fully dressed and set to receive his degree from Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing.

“I was on track to be at my commencement at 9:15 a.m., but the delays altogether ended up taking almost three hours. After 45 minutes, I knew I was already late, but I kept hoping that I’d at least make it to walking the stage.”  -Jerich Alcantara

Sadly he didn’t make it but because of some friends and strangers who were on the train that day, he got to experience a graduation of a lifetime. A friend of Alcantara presented him with his “diploma” using a cellphone, while somebody else blasted the perfect graduation song, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” by Green Day.

A passenger filmed the ceremony and posted the video on Facebook, and now Alcantara special moment is viral. Alcantara’s ceremony is one for the books, it can’t get more memorable than this! Check it out below:
