8 years ago today, Haiti was hit with one of the most devasting natural disasters in history. Today we pause to remember this tragedy that happened on Jan.12, 2010. We remember those who lost their lives, lost their loved ones, lost their homes, and we stand with the people of Haiti who are still grieving during this time.

Here are 8 facts that you may not know about the earthquake in Haiti:

1) 222,000-300,000 estimated deaths
2) 300,000 injured
3) 1.5 million displaced
4) 37,867 people are still displaced as of September 2017
5) 3,978 schools damaged and destroyed by the earthquake
6) $13.34 billion dollars in aid has been allocated by international agencies for 2010-202, according to the United Nations Office of the Special Envoy for Haiti
7) 102 UN personnel death toll
8) 122 Americans confirmed dead
