Timberland Helps Plant the Seed

By Posted on 1 2 m read

Timberland will plant 250 trees in my name/honor in my homeland, Haiti.

In 1923, over 60% of Haiti’s lands were forested. Today, less than 1% of the countries forests remain; the lowest percentage of tree cover of any country in the Western Hemisphere. Recent natural disasters in the country have exacerbated the problem and Haiti’s farmers are left with unfertile soil, constant flooding and depleted ground water. Over 70% of Haiti’s food is imported because the once fertile mountains of Haiti are unable to support the needs of the population.

Timberland seeks to change that. In 2010, Timberland partnered with Wyclef Jean’s Yéle Haiti Foundation and Trees for the Future to create Yéle Vert – a community based reforestation project in Gonaives, Haiti. Yéle Vert works with local farmers to increase their crop capacity, educate them on progressive farming techniques and provides them with crop and tree seeds; producing more than 1 million trees annually. Timberland’s commitment to sustainable development has led them to support the planting of over one million trees globally in the past decade.

Making the outdoors more sustainable also extends to Timberland’s product lines. Since 2007, Timberland’s Earthkeepers™ shoes and accessories have been using sustainable materials such as Green Rubber™ soles, recycled PET materials and organic cotton. The women’s line, featuring Belle Island Boat Ballerina shoes and Earthkeepers™ sunglasses, use renewable resources like bio-plastic and bamboo as well as 100% recycled PET lining and leather.

In order to create a more civil future, it’s important to support causes and products that are committed to the stewardship of our planet and that encourage sustained economic development. You can support Yéle Vert by participating in the Timberland’s Earthkeepers Virtual Forest application. The more trees growing in the virtual forests of the Facebook community, the more real trees Timberland will plant in Haiti. It’s an easy way to support the global community, conserve the planet and of course, LIVE CIVIL.

Thank you to Timberland for sending me products from their EarthKeepers collection, made from all recycled materials.

Hudson Jeans “I Choose” Campaign

By Posted on 72 2 m read

Hudson Jeans asked me to take part in their “I Choose” Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. During the month of October, for every purchase on their website hudsonjeans.com, $5 would be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

I  decided to wear one of my favorite jeans for the shoot, my black satten jerry hudson jeans and a simple beige top.

For my message, I wrote “I Choose to Live Civil.” it is a lifestyle I am encouraging all people to live by. Providing yourself with the will to overlook obstacles that are placed in front of us, is the first step. Living “Civil” means to live in positivity and peace, which are two attributes I believe help those who have breast cancer overcome. The Breast Cancer Foundation is an organization that helps many people get on the track to living civil. I am more than honored to have taken part in the Hudson BCRF project, and encourage everyone to read more about it.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder as an independent, not-for-profit organization, dedicated to funding innovative clinical and translational research. In October 2011, BCRF will award $36.5 million to 186 scientists across the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Australia and China. Currently, more than 90 cents of every dollar donated is directed to breast cancer research and awareness programs. With exceptionally low administrative costs, BCRF continues to be one of the most efficient organizations in the country and is designated an “A+” charity by The American Institute of Philanthropy, the only cancer organization to achieve this. For more information about BCRF, visit www.bcrfcure.org.

#LiveCivil Brunch

By Posted on 52 1 m read

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to host my first Live Civil Brunch with the help of Qream Liqueur. The event brought together women from various professions and industries while celebrating their accomplishments. As my Live Civil brand continues to expand, celebrating that with women I hold the utmost respect for is something I even have a hard time putting into words. It’s almost surreal, actually.

While the Brunch was celebratory, it happened to be more motivational than anything. As if I did not have a high drive to succeed in every endeavor, being around these women made my drive increase tenfold. From the bottom of my heart, I’d like to send a huge thank you to everyone who attended. It is certainly appreciated. Hope to see you all next year!

A Helping Hand

By Posted on 77 1 m read

It’s easy to be someone’s friend when they’ve got it all together, when they’re walking in blessing and prosperity. Anybody can believe in people after they’re successful, after they graduate, after they’re promoted, after they get their big break. But, people need our support the most before they get their breakthrough. They need us to look past their faults and failures and see their potential.

By Posted on 3 1 m read

Sometimes the most important things in your life is ensuring the right people stay in it. It isn’t always easy, but it’s necessary. Priority with the right dose of honesty can lead to valuable perspective. Right now I’m winning and that’s a direct reflection of the quality of people I surround myself with. If you’ve got friends like mine raise your glasses. If not, raise your standards

The Strength In Words

By Posted on 2 1 m read

Our words have the power to lift people up or push people down. We can say something to make others feel better about themselves or make them feel worse. It’s amazing what a simple compliment will do. When you tell someone “You look nice today,” or “Great job on that presentation at the office,” or “I really enjoy working with you,” those simple words will put a spring in their step and brighten their day. It doesn’t take much time and doesn’t cost you anything, yet with your words, you can bless their life.

How to Be the CEO of Your Life

by Janet Callaway

Sounds good, doesn’t it? The CEO of Your Life means that you are in charge, you make the decisions; you’re in control of your life. Guess what, you already are the CEO of Your Life; you already have 100% responsibility for whatever happens in your life. You need to recognize it, accept it and take action.

If you were a Company, you would do monthly, quarterly and year end reviews as well as plan for the next year. As the CEO of Your Life, it is time for you to do the same. Let’s begin.

Are you reaching your objectives? Look at both your short and long term goals. If you want to have more time to spend with your family or have more money for vacations/hobbies/children’s college, you might want to take a look at starting a home business, online business or a network marketing business. Such businesses not only provide you with additional income, they also allow you to take advantage of well over 100 tax benefits that are available ONLY to the owners of a home business.

As CEO of Your Life set your 10 year goal. Where do you want to be in 10 years. Then chunk it down into smaller increments. Where do you want to be in 1, 3 and 5 years? It is essential that you put your goals in writing.
