Octavia Spencer, a true icon in hollywood, has landed a new role. Her more popular roles have been in films such as The Help and Hidden Figures, and Spencer believes it is time for her to step out of historically based films. Her latest announced film does just that.
Ma, a thriller film from Blumhouse will star Octavia Spencer as the lead character. Spencer’s character will be “a lonely woman who befriends a group of teenagers with tortuous consequences”. Although the movie has a dark and suspenseful theme, director Tate Taylor says Spencer’s character is not villanous.
“It’s dark material, but it’s also really fun.” says Taylor to Variety.
“I wouldn’t call her a villainm it’s definitely the most complex character she’s ever played if i may be so bold as to say that.”
Taylor who also directed Spencer in the film The Help is no stranger to the depth of her talent. There are currently no details on the films release date.
