Hidden Figures dominated the big screens and encouraged young Black girls everywhere to explore and pursue STEM based careers. Nat Geo was also inspired by the Academy nominated film and is developing a series based on the story reported by Variety.
Hidden Figures the film was adapted from a book of the same name, written by Margot Lee Shetterly, telling the true story of the Black women who were vital to the American space program at the height of the Space Race. The stories of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson, were portrayed by Taraji P Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae in the film which grossed over $235 million worldwide.
The unnamed television project is set to be produced by Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping who also produced the film. If the project comes to fruition, it would join Nat Geo’s push for scripted material. Nat Geo is a cable network, produced by National Geographic and 21st Century Fox.
