Naomi Osaka, 19-Year Old Haitian Tennis Star, Defeats U.S. Open Champion

Black girl magic was on full display at the 2017 U.S. Open as 19 year old Naomi Osaka upstages U.S. defending champion Angelique Kerber.  Osaka, the wildcard dominated #6 seeded Kerber ((6-3, 6-1) and scored the first top 10 victory of her professional tennis career.

Osaka and Kerber faced each other and spectators were surprised when the Haitian-Japanese  Osaka defeated the reigning champion. The round one upset proves Osaka’s steady tennis career can reach new heights.  The match which took place August 29th put Osaka through to the next round where claimed another victory. Naoimi Osaka defeated Denisa Allertova for an advancement to the third round.

The 2017 U.S. Open is not Osaka’s first match in a major arena. Osaka has made the third round in all four major tennis tournaments.  Although she has never won a professional tournament, her tennis skills are vicious.

Naomi Osaka adds a unique flair to the world of Japanese tennis. The 19 year old powerhouse athlete has Haitian and Japanese heritage however she resides in the United States.  Osaka has duel citizenship in both the USA and Japan and plays under the Japanese Tennis Association. Naomi Osaka may be the next big thing in Japanese tennis however some fans are surprised when they see her.

“I can understand way more Japanese than I can speak, And when I go to Japan people are confused. From my name, they don’t expect to see a black girl.” says Osaka in an interview with USA Today.

Naoimi Osaka’s impeccable athleticism is not only being noticed by spectators and fans in the Japanese arena but fans and tennis legends across the world. Osaka, who has seen Venus Williams on the Wimbledon court where she was defeated, was praised by Serena Williams in an interview.

“I have seen her play. She’s really young and really aggressive. She’s a really good, talented player. Very dangerous,” remarks Serena Williams after watching Osaka play in the 2016 Australian Open.

Osaka who views both Williams sister’s as role models has bright future in tennis. The triumphant win is just a preview of what to expect from Naomi Osaka’s tennis career.
