Michelle Obama and “Let Girls Learn” hosted a huge event in Washington D.C.in celebration of International Women’s Day this week. In addition to the empowerment and bonding, First Lady Obama was there to give the girls some priceless wisdom and advice.
The group of women, which ranged from high school girls to corporate execs, gathered to learn about the importance of education and the importance of making opportunities accessible for women around the world.
FLOTUS took the time to celebrate the accomplishments of the Let Girls Learn initiative over the past year, and vowed to continue to make each year stronger and to reach more women globally. According to Makers, Mrs. Obama said, “The more I traveled and met with girls and experts about this issue, the more I realized the barrier isn’t just resources, “ said Mrs. Obama, “Like most women, I know how it feels to be overlooked, underestimated, to have someone only listen to your ideas in a meeting.”
The initiative was something that was near and dear to Michelle’s heart, saying, “This issue is truly resonating as folks from every sector are stepping up to take action on behalf of these girls around the world.”
