The situation regarding Colin Kaepernick and his (and others’) choice to protest the National Anthem during NFL games this season has taken the entire country by storm. While there are still lingering with the inequality and injustice of how black people are being treated in this country, certain feats make it clear that Kaepernick’s message is being heard:
- his jersey sales currently top the NFL
- several other NFL athletes, and athletes in other sports are joining his protest
- Colin (among others) have pledged to donate money to organizations benefiting under privilleged communities
- it’s been a topic of discussion ever since
To add to the conversation in a major way, TIME Magazine has put Colin on the cover of their latest issue. But, it’s not just Colin Kaepernick posing for TIME; instead Colin’s doing his infamous kneel on the front cover, making this iconic moment even more iconic.
In the cover story, the magazine spoke with several athletes, including Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins, New England Patriots defensive back Devin McCourty, and Cleveland Browns legend Jim Brown, and more.
“We’re not doing this made-up thing to get attention,” Jenkins said of his decision to join Kaepernick’s protest. “Real lives are being lost. Real communities are being affected. The negativity comes from people’s unwillingness to digest the hard truth.”
