Katie Ledecky, U.S. Swimmer Beats Her Own World Record In 1,500-Meter Freestyle

Imagine accidentally breaking your own swimming record?

Well, eighteen-year-old U.S. swimmer, Katie Ledecky broke her own world record in the 1,500-meter freestyle on Monday morning during a round at the FINA World Swimming Championship in Russia.

It was a record she had previously broken on three separate occasions. She clocked in at 15 minutes and 27.71 seconds, besting her previous record by roughly two-thirds of a second.

While her coach, Bruce Gemmell told her to take the first three-fifths of the race easy, she essentially broke a world record without even trying.

Katies goes to say, “I’m in quite a bit of shock right now, I was barely even focusing on this morning’s swim. I was so relaxed. But, this is probably one of the most coolest world records I’ve broken.”

Congratulations Katie!
