Kanye West continues to break down boundaries and barriers in the fashion industry. The “All Falls Down” rapper has casted Halima Aiden, a 19-year-old Muslim supermodel from Somalia in his Yeezy Season 5.
Aiden proudly represented Muslim women by walking in her hijab at one of New York Fashion Week’s most talked about shows.

Aiden made her debut in front of Vogues Anna Wintour, who was sitting in the front row. Aiden’s story shows the success of immigrants in America. The model was born in a Kenyan refugee camp and is now a college freshman at Saint Cloud State University in Minnesota.
We first heard about Aiden after she made history for being the first Miss Minnesota contestant to wear her hijab and traditional wear throughout the entire competition, she also opted out of wearing a bikini during the swimwear portion of the competition.
“A lot of people will look at you and will fail to see your beauty because you’re covered up and they’re not used to it. So growing up, I just had to work on my people skills and give people a chance to really know me besides the clothing.” – Halema Aiden via KARE
The model is signed to IMG models and is one supermodel that you should keep your eyes on! She reeks of beauty and strength, inside and out. Check out her most recent work with Caroline Roitfield the former editor of Vogue Paris:
