Per NBC Sports, 25-year old Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins Saturday morning at approximately 7:50 AM CST. Belcher then drove to the team’s Arrowhead practice facility where he was met in the parking lot by GM Scott Pioli and Coach Romeo Crennel. Belcher allegedly thanked them before shooting himself.
Belcher and Perkins allegedly argued following Perkins return from attending a Trey Songz concert on Friday night.
It’s hard to imagine what the players are going through with a game set for kickoff in 26 hours from when the news broke. The Chiefs will host the Carolina Panthers tomorrow at Arrowhead Stadium. Panthers interim general manager Brandon Beane was told by the league to continue travel plans as scheduled.
The saddest part about this story is that Belcher and his girlfriend had a baby less than three months ago.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family members and Chiefs organization who lost a loved one in this shooting.
