Congratulations are in order for Mrs. Jennifer Hudson Ottunga as she will be receiving recognition from The Recording Academy for her artistic achievements and generosity as a philanthropist.
“We are elated to recognize Jennifer Hudson as not only a gifted musician and actress but as an extraordinary humanitarian who has selflessly contributed her time and talent to numerous worthwhile causes,” said Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow . “She is one of the industry’s most enduring, giving and gifted women, and we are privileged to be honoring her artistry, her commitment, and her generosity.”
For those of you who aren’t in the know let’s check her credentials. After her stint as a finalist on American Idol, Jennifer Hudson went on to star in the smash adaptation of the Broadway musical Dreamgirls. From this role alone she won an Oscar, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award, a BAFTA, an NAACP Image Award and was named Entertainer of the Year at the Soul Train Awards. Acting credits since then have included Sex in the City, The Secret Life of Bee’s, The Three Stooges, a multi-episode character arc on one of MY favorite shows SMASH, and three movies set to hit theaters in 2013.
As a philanthropist, Jennifer and her sister Julia Hudson, founded the Julian D. King foundation in 2009 in memory of Jennifer’s nephew and Julia’s son who was tragically shot and killed in 2008. The Julian D. King foundation focuses on children’s health, education and welfare, and the overall positive development of children in the Chicago area. They have completed numerous fund raising and outreach events from providing back to school supplies for children to toys and Christmas trees for less fortunate families.
Bravo for Jennifer, we at Live Civil are proud of her and her accomplishments and are so glad to see that she’s getting the much deserved recognition from organizations as prestigious as The Recording Academy.
