The multitalented actress and artist Janelle Monae the in popular retail store Gap’s 2017 holiday campaign. Monae brings her signature black and white eclectic style to the Gap’s classic American aesthethic for a feel good holiday commercial.
Janelle Monae notably prioritizes empowerment, diversity and inclusion a theme prevalent throughout the advert. A large group of men, women and children of all walks of life, performing a version of “You Got What I Need” by Freddie Scott.
The ‘Hidden Figures’ star genuinely supports the Gap beyond her latest holiday campaign. Back in 2008, Monae starred in Gap’s “Merry Mix It” campaign alongside Trey Songz and Flo Rida. Before stardom, Janelle Monae grew up a fan of the brand.
“I remember wearing it all the time for years, I have a very organic relationship with Gap, so [the campaign] just felt right.” Monáe told Billboard Style.
