High Intensity Interval Training For Best Results

The best form of exercise to burn calories, increase your metabolism, burn fat and see faster results is to train using high intensity interval training (HIIT). Did you know that there are two forms of exercise? Anaerobic and aerobic. These two terms when simplified mean “with oxygen” and “without oxygen.”  The types of workouts that are “with oxygen” can include running, walking, jogging, biking and even cross Country Skiing. These are all great activities and train your circulatory system, heart, and lungs. There is however a downside.  They cause increased hormone levels. Specifically a hormone known as Cortisol. This is a stress hormone that stimulates appetite and the storage of fat. This is the complete opposite result that most of us want to see.

Exercises that are “without oxygen” include a variety of sports or interval training. These activities are all of higher intensity and shorter duration. You can make any workout a HIIT workout. The benefit of HIIT is tremendous. One benefit is that human growth hormone and testosterone are released in the body when you perform this type of workout. This is of importance because human growth hormone burns fat and builds lean muscle. This is why you see sprinters at the Olympics looking so lean and fit.

Another benefit of HIIT is that lean muscle burns fat and causes an increased in your metabolism. Your metabolism will also stay elevated longer than it would from steady state cardio “with oxygen.” Remember these exercises include things like running, walking or jogging for a long period of time. So the next time you go to the gym try doing short sprints on the treadmill and walk in between. Or try burpees, box jumps, or jumping jacks in between your lifts. You’re body will burn calories, build muscle, increase its metabolism and you will get faster results.
