Suicide is a frightening and taboo topic within American culture. Though suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S., we are often unwilling to acknowledge and discuss it. Recognizing that someone you know may be a danger to themselves can be alarming and overwhelming. You may be asking yourself, “what you can do?”
With so little dialogue about suicide, it is not surprising that most people don’t know how to handle it. That being said, here are some suggestions for helping a person you believe may be suicidal.
