ESSENCE Festival, nicknamed the ‘party with a purpose’ celebrates the magazine and it’s readers, primarily black women. An enjoyable occasion for all races and genders, the annual festival takes place in New Orleans under the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The three days of culture will include live musical performances, film showcases, food, fashion and more.
With ESSENCE returning to black ownership and the success of summer blockbuster ‘Girls Trip’, where the “flossy posse” attended the festival, many are excited about the 2018 event. This years festival will feature the ESSENCE Superlounge with a “unique DJ curated experience hosted by Idris Elba, MC Lyte and more. Another Superlounge providing an “interactive music experience” will be hosted by popular podcast hosts Crissle and Kid Fury of The Read.
The headliners taking the main-stage include Janet Jackson who’s recent tour reminded the world of her dominating stage presence. Mary J Blige also headlines the event and both singers will be joined by Erykah Badu and Jill Scott. ESSENCE is fusing classic soulful, R&B vibes with hip hop performers and vocalists on the rise. Special guests include Snoop Dogg, Daniel Caesar, Miguel, DVSN, and more. ESSENCE says more artists will be announced soon.
The 2018 ESSENCE Festival takes place July 5th-8th.
