EBONY has always been known to uplift the black community and help ignite the fire that burns in all of us to propel and do great things. The September issue of EBONY does just that, as they pay homage to black women in the fashion industry.

The cover itself shows variations of black women who are making a way in the modeling world for themselves. From women who model the clothes to the women that make them, EBONY’s purpose is to shed light on these women in particular who have not been given the credit they deserve. They address the issue of black women and how they are fading way on runways and the pages of fashion magazines. During 373 New York fashion week shows, London, Milan and Paris alone there are approximately 9,538 model bookings and of those bookings only 8 percent were black women.

The “Race & The Runway” section of EBONY discusses the many troubles black women in modeling had to face. EBONY sat down with three genrations of fashion runway icons including: Pat Cleveland, Beverly Johnson, Roshumba and Tyra Banks. All three ladies share their testimonies on how black women in fashion means a lot more than what people realize and that black women in fashion represent our pride.

In addition to paying homage to these fashion icons their cover story, “Made You Look,” shed’s light on six models rocking fall’s boldest trends while flaunting the skin their in. This women include six new faces int he modeling world: Chantelle Winnie (IG: WinnieHarlow), Milan Dixon (IG: ModeloMilano), Fatima Siad (IG: FatimaSiad), Marquita Pring (IG: Marquita Pring), Diandra Forrest (IG: Diandra Forrest), and Samantha Archibald (ThinkThinkBrainBlast). All six of these women are paired up with fashion’s hottest design talent Rocho Omondi, Charles Harbison, Stella Jean, LaQuan Smith and Mimi Plange for an epic moment in fashion history.
