The duo launched the campaign with a 30-second commercial that aired during the pre-show for the wildly popular Academy Awards. The video shares that, “Last year women sent over 5 million negative tweets about beauty and body image.” They want to change these statistics.
“Social media is playing a critical role in showing and shaping how women and girls feel about themselves.” Danah Boyd said in a press release. “Yet, women do not realize how online dialogue can contribute to negative mindsets and behavior towards beauty both on and offline. We women have an incredible opportunity to be more thoughtful about how we speak about ourselves and others on social media. The power is truly at our fingertips.”
