Civil Interview: Jalisa Smith Inspires The Youth With New Children’s Book ‘In His Absence, I Can Still Feel His Presence’

The messages we spread to our children will have a lasting impact on their lives. Information and memories that children form at a young age tend to stick with them for years to come.

For talented new author Jalisa Smith, that mentality came into play when she decided to publish her very first children’s book.

Titled In His Absence, I Can Still Feel His Presence, Jalisa wrote this powerful story with the intention of helping children overcome the loss of their loved ones. “I lost my dad when I was 11 years old and it was the most painful thing I ever experienced,” Jalisa shares with us. “I wish I had a book to help and guide me through.”

We recently caught up with Jalisa in light of her new book release for a sit down interview. We spoke on what inspired her to become an author, why she wanted to write a children’s book in particular, her take on police brutality and senseless violence and what’s next up for her.
