By Posted on 0 1 m read

During the 2017 Golden Globes, Oprah Winfrey became the first black woman to recieve the coveted Cecil B. DeMille award for her work in television, film and media. Winfrey delivered an impassioned speech which left many viewers feeling hopeful and inspired. The speech also lead many to share their ‘Oprah 2020’ wishes via social media and to their surprise, the mogul may already be two steps ahead.

According to CNN, two close friends of Winfrey confirm she is “actively thinking” about running for president. The two friends offered this information under the safety of anonymity to have the opportunity to speak freely.  Winfrey’s friends also revealed that those close to the multi-media mogul are pushing her to make the leap into politics and run for the top seat in the oval office.

One of the sources attributes the beginning of these active thoughts of running a presidential campaign to conversations over a month old however Oprah has not confirmed that she will submit.  She has worked closely with other presidential candidates, advocating and campaigning for both Barack Obama in 2008 and Hillary Clinton in 2016.

She may be the dream candidate of many yet Winfrey’s representative has not yet responded with an official update.

Oprah Has The Perfect Response For Tip’s Recent Comments About A Female President

By Posted on 51 1 m read

As most of us know by now, Tip, formerly (and still) known as T.I., had some not so pleasant comments about the idea of the U.S. having a female president. The rapper has since apologized for his “insensitive comments,” though the bashing he’s receving on social media has only subsided a bit.

One of the most powerful women in entertainment, Oprah Winfrey, was baffled to hear of such wild comments that she almost didn’t believe they were true. “Nobody said that, in this day and age,” Oprah tells TMZ. When asked what she would say to Tip, Oprah nailed it: “Honey child, hush your mouth.” Simple, to the point.

Watch Oprah’s reaction below and let this be a lesson to be careful what you say on camera.

A Swiss Boutique Just Made a Huge Mistake Not Recognizing Oprah Winfrey

By Posted on 62 1 m read
It’s safe to say the unemployment rate in Switzerland experienced a slight increase this morning. A Swiss shop is being accused of racism after refusing to show a black woman a fancy handbag because it was deemed “too expensive” for her. That woman? Oprah.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Oprah felt she was discriminated against while shopping in Zürich when the clerk turned her away when she asked to see a Tom Ford purse worth $38,000. Clearly, the clerk didn’t recognize the OWN mogul because $38,000 is a drop in the bucket considering Oprah earned more than $70 million over the last year.

The Swiss tourism board is trying to clean up this PR nightmare, issuing a public apology and stating that the clerk in question “acted terribly wrong.” Reps from store itself say the whole thing is a misunderstanding, that the clerk offered to show Oprah similar yet less expensive handbags because the sales associate was “a little embarrassed” by the outrageous price tag of the purse in question. (Apparently the Swiss shop didn’t learn anything from that Hermes snafu eight years ago.)

Either way, Oprah’s earned the right to one of these moments:

Oprah’s OWN Begins to See a Profit Only Two Years After Launch + Tyler Perry Instrumental In The Shift

By Posted on 0 2 m read

When Oprah Winfrey’s OWN channel took over Discovery Health Network back in 2011 officials at Discovery made the radical claim that they would be able to see a return on their investment within it’s first year. Unfortunately, and to everyone’s surprise, OWN didn’t do nearly as well as everyone anticipated and instead of seeing that immediate return, Discovery began paying more money to help ensure the success of this new project, totaling in $510 Million in loans.

After some reconsideration, soul searching restructuring by Discovery’s Chief Executive, David M. Zaslav and Oprah herself, Discovery released a more tangible outlook that forecast OWN turning a profit in the second half of 2013. Well proudly, just short of their predictions, Zaslav went on record to say that OWN was “ahead of the originally anticipated second half of the year goal of cash flow break even.”

In addition to axing Rosie O’Donnell’s elaborate talk show and some internal lay-offs, a great deal of this turn-around goes to the investment in new sitcoms such as Tyler Perry’s “Have and Havenots” and “Love Thy Neighbor” which lead to more ad sales and better subscriber fees from cable and satellite providers.

While officials say it could still be a few years before Discovery’s full investment is recuped, it’s anticipated that OWN will be “tens of millions” of dollars ahead of schedule for the full year. Great news no doubt for Oprah’s team and a huge step for Mr. Tyler Perry. With things finally going in the right direction we’re excited to see what new programming we’ll get to see with the new freedoms OWN will be able to operate within.

Lindsay Lohan Is Giving Oprah a Post-Rehab Interview — and a Reality Series

By Posted on 0 1 m read

Oprah Winfrey has scored another very big interview.

EW reports that the talk show host has landed the first exclusive sit-down interview with Lindsay Lohan when she finishes up her rehab stint later this summer. But wait — there’s more!

Winfrey’s cable network OWN has also signed Lohan to an eight-episode docuseries that will follow the actress as she attempts to stay on the straight and narrow (again). The interview with LiLo will air in August, with the reality series slated for sometime in 2014.

Lohan is currently serving a 90-day court ordered stint in rehab. This latest visit marks the 27-year-old actress’ third stay at a rehab facility. Lohan has attempted a career revival in recent years, starring in Lifetime’s Elizabeth Taylor biopic Liz & Dick, FX’s Anger Management, and the buzzy new indie drama The Canyons.

‘Dark Girls’ Documentary To Premiere on OWN Network

By Posted on 0 1 m read

It looks like Bill Duke’s documentary, Dark Girls is heading to Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network  this June.

It’s been traveling the film festival circuit since its TIFF debut in the fall of 2011, and, at one time, seemed like it would get a theatrical release, but that never happened.

It was a year ago when Bull Duke announced that he was developing 2 feature documentary follow-ups to Dark Girls, after a screening of that film at the Pan African Film Festival in 2012.

Sharing with the audience during a Q&A after the screening, Duke said that the two follow-up films would include: Yellow Brick Road, which will look at the *colorism* issue from the fairer-skinned black woman’s point of view (Dark Girls was from the darker-skinned black woman’s POV); and the other would be titled What Is A Man, which will explore what masculinity and manhood is, from the beginning of humanity to the present.

Dark Girls will premiere on OWN on SundayJune 23rd, at 10pm ET.
