Black History Month Appreciation (Day 25): Devon & Leah Still

Their bond is inseparable, and over all, stole our hearts in so many ways. This is why, we admire NFL player Devon Still, and his 5-year-old daughter, Leah Still in day 25 of our #LiveCivilBHM series.

In all started in June of 2014, when the former Cincinnati Bengals player captivated our attention through an Instagram post, as he detailed the devastating news of his daughter being diagnosed with cancer. Since then, her story has inspired fans and even started the movement: #LeahStrong

During the 2015 ESPY Awards Devon gave a touching speech on their experience, as he accepted his daughter’s Jimmy V Perseverance Award for her fight and courage during her journey.

The father and daughter duo also wrote an animated book titled I Am Leah Strong, dedicated to help kids who are fighting pediatric cancer and for kids who will be diagnosed in the future to help them with the transition from normal life to being in the hospital all the time.

Shortly after, the New Jersey native took national T.V. to thank his daughter for giving him strength throughout the tough time.

He told the TODAY show, “I looked through all the different pictures from when we started until the end, and I feel very blessed that we were able to make it through this. Social media really helped a lot during the dark times because we would go on there and see some of the comments, and it would give us energy.”

Within the last week, Devon made us smile once again, as he proudly posted videos of his little girl owning the runway at this year’s New York Fashion Week, and of course, he once again proved that Leah is one raising star.

Nonetheless, after a long battle, Leah can finally say she is cancer-free, and we couldn’t be anymore proud!

Thank you Devon and Leah, for being a beautiful father-daughter duo and inspiring many of us. Happy Black History Month!
