After celebrating the victory of being able to raise nearly $10 million in an effort to keep from losing accreditation, it was announced Friday (Feb. 22) that the Southern Association of Schools Commission on Colleges had rejected Bennett College’s appeal to have their accreditation restored. However, the institution then filed a lawsuit against the accrediting body, in which a federal judge granted the college a temporary restraining order to prevent the organization from revoking the college’s accreditation and notifying the Secretary of Education of its decision. It is because of the judge’s decision that Benett College’s accreditation has been restored and will remain restored during legal proceedings, which is expected to last several months.
