Back in September, we informed you that Halle Berry and Lena Waithe would be teaming up for BET’s reboot of the classic romantic comedy film ‘Boomerang.’ The reboot, which will be made into a series, will follow the children of the original cast as they try to balance their personal and professional lives as millennials in marketing, centered in Atlanta.
Tequan Richmond (Everybody Hates Chris) and Tetona Jackson (All Night) are set to star as Jacqueline Broyer’s (played by Robin Givens) son and Marcus and Angela Graham’s (played by Eddie Murphy and Halle Berry) daughter. Leland B. Martin (A Cinderella Christmas) and Lala Milan (Claws) will also join the cast as series regulars.
In a behind-the-scenes video, Lena Waithe and showrunner Ben Cory Jones discuss the making of ‘Boomerang’ (the series), even taking us into the writer’s room. Waithe and Jones revealed they were looking for a new and fresh approach to the reboot of the classic film.
“When we realized we were going to be doing a recharge of the movie, we tried to figure out how can we make something new and fresh,” said Jones. “Our thought, Lena and I, was to take the iconic characters from the film, but follow their 26-year-old offspring of these major characters as they’re living in Atlanta and working in advertising.”
‘Boomerang’ premieres February 12 on BET.
