Ava DuVernay’s Barbie doll, courtesy of Mattel Toys, will makes its debut Monday for the holiday season.
It’s no surprise that Ava has been granted this honor. With accolades like being the first African American female nominated for a Best Picture Oscar for Selma, the director is definitely on the right track.
So how did this come about? Well, thank Ava’s fans. Her mass Twitter followers asked Mattel to make the dolls available for the public to purchse, rather than the company’s original plan to make one to auction for charity.
The doll is rocking luxurious locks with a likeness to Ava like no other. Scroll down to see for yourself.
All proceeds from the purchases will be donated to two organizations that are dear to Duvernay’s heart: Color of Change and Witness. Head over to Barbie’s site to purchase your very own Ava DuVernay Barbie Doll.
