Ava DuVernay is the First African-American Woman to Direct a $100 Million Film

Fun fact: who is the first African-American woman to direct a live-action film with a budget over $100 million. Her name is Ava DuVernay and she will be at the reigns of A Wrinkle in Time starring Oprah Winfrey.

The achievement puts her in rare air, the only other women who have been the Director of a film with a large budge are Kathryn Bigelow and Patty Jenkins who directed K-19: The Widowmaker and Wonder Woman, respectively.

DuVernay has worked on some outstanding pieces in the past serving as the Director and Co-Writer for Selma, independent film Middle of Nowhere and more. Recently DuVernay declined to direct the upcoming Marvel film Black Panther because she felt that it wouldn’t be an Ava DuVernay film, however, you can be sure that A Wrinkle in Time will have her fingerprints all on it.
