From biochemistry to the modeling industry. Anok Yai, a sophomore at Plymouth State University had the most list Howard homecoming experience ever!
Yai was spotted by photographer Steven Hall who was casually taking photos of stylish attendees. Hall posted Yai’s photo on his Instagram account @TheSUNK, with caption: “Saw her right at the end of Yardfest. Stunning @anokyai” and the rest is history.
The photo went viral. Yai thought that she had become a meme when the immense amount of likes and followers started to flow through. In an interview with The Boston Globe, she says that she thought the photo was “average” and didn’t think much of it.
“My phone just started vibrating rapidly for a long, long time,” Yai told The Boston Globe. It wasn’t a meme instead her phone was popping’ with comments about how beautiful she was and people saying that she deserved a modeling contract. Twitter did its thing and Yai was contacted by several modeling agencies and she decided to sign with Next Models.
Yai plans to continue her studies and model part-time. She had no idea her dream of modeling would happen this way or this fast.
We can’t wait to see her work, you go girl!
