Singer-songwriter Ameriie has been keeping busy these days as a New York Times best-selling author, YouTube vlogger, and a new mommy!
The “1 Thing” songstress announced to the world earlier this year that she was expecting her first child and gave birth to her adorable baby boy, River Rowe Charles L. Nicholson, in May.
If you’re into lifestyle and beauty as much as I am, then you’ve already fallen in love with Ameriie’s YouTube channel. However, it is one of her most recent uploads that resonates with me more than any favorites, unboxing, or try-on haul video has. She recently released a video titled “My Birth Story,” where she details not only complications she experienced during labor, but her previous struggle with uterine fibroids.
In 2015, Ameriie was diagnosed with a uterine fibroid that she described as being about the size of a grapefruit. “I didn’t even know it was there, which is quite unusual because it was almost the size of a grapefruit,” she says.
Ameriie admitted to being unwilling to undergo fibroid removal surgery if it wasn’t necessary. However, after consulting with her doctor, who informed her of the complications the fibroid could cause in the event Ameriie were to get pregnant, she ultimately decided to follow through with the myomectomy.
“Because of the size and because fibroids get bigger when you’re pregnant, it would get really uncomfortable and possibly cause early delivery,” Ameriie said.
After discovering that she was pregnant and because of her 2015 myomectomy, Ameriie also learned that the incision made to remove her fibroid made it impossible to give birth naturally without labor complications. A vaginal birth would be incredibly dangerous, leaving the singer-songwriter with the option of a C-section, which went a lot better than she’d imagined.
“He was like reaching out to me and it was the most amazing thing,” Ameriie recalled. “He put his hand against the clear drape, and I had my hand there and he grasped my finger. He wrapped his hand around my finger. I’ll never forget that for the rest of my life.”
