While people often associate detoxing strictly with clean eating, I look at it as an opportunity to make changes in every aspect of your life. Detoxing can be the process of removing things and people from your life that negatively impact your physical and mental health. It’s not uncommon for your mind to become clouded or life to slighly lose balance, it’s probably just time for a cleanse or life detox as I like to call it.
Here are five simple yet effective ways to detox your life.
Declutter & Organize Your Living Space
Listen, I don’t know about you, but I can barely think straight when my house is a mess. Not only is decluttering your living space a great way to detoxify your life but to also simplify it. In a 2016 article on U.S. News, clients of professional organizer Angela Betancourt noted that after decluttering they experienced less stress and anxiety, more inner peace and self-confidence, stronger decision-making skills, and improved health habits, like better sleep.
Remove Toxic People From Your Life
As difficult as this may be sometimes, saying goodbye to unhealthy relationships is probably one of the most effective ways to detoxify your life. Speaking from experience, it’s almost unbelievable how much of your energy can be drained by one person. Unfortunately, or at least in my case, it’s usually someone you love. With that being said, it doesn’t make walking away from them the easiest thing to do. However, you owe it to yourself and your sanity to let them go or at least set boundaries. Also, keep in mind that toxic people are not limited to only being a significant other. It can also be family and friends.
Take A Social Media Hiatus
I can’t even begin to explain how much clearer my mind and spirit get when I take a break from social media. At the beginning of 2017, I took a two-month hiatus from social media and the results were amazing. Not only did I become more attuned with life in front of me, but I was happier. I kept mentioning how good it felt to be “out of the loop” and not know what everyone else was doing. It allowed me to focus on me.
Change Your Diet
Unhealthy eating habits can heavily impact your physical and mental health, so I recommend switching up your diet as a way to detoxify your life. Whenever I find myself indulging in some not so great food choices, I like to spend a couple of days flushing my system with refreshing lemon water or I may heat up a mug of detox tea. This is also the perfect time to start adding more fruits and veggies to your diet.
Do More of What Makes YOU Happy
It’s so easy and common to get lost in doing for everyone else that we neglect our own happiness. Detoxifying your life starts with making the decision that your happiness is the most important to you.
