What is the first thing you think of or look at in the morning? Is it your social media timeline that sometimes has you wishing you could drop out of school and become an IG model? Are you scrolling through your feed comparing your regular life to another boosted social media guru’s? Or maybe it’s that messy group chat with your friends or family filled with tension and unnecessary drama?
It’s time to put those negative things to the side and start taking control of your thoughts, and it all starts right when you wake up.
Day in and day out, you have the ability to set the tone for how your day will play out. Often times we forget that we have complete control over our mood, and we let life get to us. Did you know that the mind is everything and what you think, you become? If you want to have a good day you must think good thoughts, and if you want to achieve a certain goal, you must picture yourself already there doing it. The mind can be our best friend or our worst enemy, if we don’t show it who’s boss.
If you are going through something just know that it is what it is, –a hood classic. Everything happens for a reason, and unfortunately there isn’t a whole lot you can do about it. Your best bet is to wake up, smell the coffee, and accept the challenge head on. You are going to make it through, you always do.
When you start to focus too much on what’s going wrong, it is helpful to verbally express all of the rights. Start your morning off by stating a couple of things that you are grateful for. Practicing this technique will make your new curl set falling and the fact that you have to deal with your racist co-worker, a minuscule problem that does not deserve your time or energy because you are #TooBlessedToBeStressed.
Our to-do lists are usually at the forefront of our mind when that alarm clock goes off. These thoughts are what make us anxious and instantly moody because we are overwhelmed at the thought of everything we must accomplish for the day. Aunt Oprah said it best, “Do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do”. As soon as the sun comes up you have the choice to either sink or swim. Having the life you want is not going to be handed to you on a silver platter, so get up and get it.
Take a deep breath and just take a moment to yourself. Listen to your favorite song, say a quick prayer, meditate, and reflect. Before you face the world make sure you face yourself. Be 100 percent aware of what you are feeling and how are you are feeling and be sure to check any negativity at the door. Starting your day strong is key, so do what’s necessary to achieve that.
