It has been a month since the powerful Hurricanes Irma and Maria destroyed the island of Puerto Rico. The island has been in dire need of aid and assistance and this 12-year-old decided to lend a helping hand.
Most 12-year-old girls are asking for toys for their birthday but not Dashai Morton. Instead of celebrating her birthday the normal way, Morton raised 500 cases of water to help with the clean water shortage that is happening in Puerto Rico.
“She wanted nothing else. Nothing else. No party, no nothing. This is what she wanted”- Tanya Morton via WJLA
Morton curated the “Project Give Back 500” at her school, North Forestville Elementary where she is a 6th-grade student. She met her goal of collecting 500 cases of water in two weeks. Blankets and non-perishable foods were also collected by donors.
“It makes me happy because I can help other people who don’t have what I have.” – Dashai Morton
Morton continues to collect water and other goods until the end of October. We salute you, Dashai Morton! Continue to be great and keep that heart of gold. #BlackGirlMagic
